[ JG : Milwaukee ] Nick Schweitzer usually takes it upon himself to capture different snippets of the conversations that take place at the monthly “Drinking Right” gathering of us area conservative wing-nuts, loons, bloggers, pundits, and ne’er-do-wells.

But he couldn’t be there last night, so I’m happy to fill in. Unfortunately, between the lighting, the Southern Comfort, and my farsightedness, I couldn’t really write anything down. And my short-term memory ain’t so hot either. So anywhere the details are fuzzy, I’ma just make sh*t up.

Here’s how the conversations went:

• ChrisFromRacine: “You should meet my friend Sara. She’s funny, beautiful, has a great job… way outta YOUR league.”
• Sara: “I only smoke when I’m near guys who creep me out. Got a light?”
• AsianBadger: “So that’s how me and my platoon liberated Arizona from the &%$ Mexicans in our F-18s. Speaking of getting shot down, I saw you talking to Sara. Man, is SHE outta your league.”
• Tom McMahon: “…and Walter Brennan won three Oscars for– Who are you staring at? Dude she’s WAY outta your league.”
• Sara: “Seriously, I work with lawyers. Go away.”
• Jimi57: “Stupid Brewers. Can’t believe they’re throwing away another one. Their bullpen can’t stop anybody.”
• Me: “Wow. Thanks for being the one person not making any cracks about–”
• Jimi57: “Guess they’re out of THEIR league, too!”

Slick operator that I am, I tried coaxing Sara’s email out of her. I was amazed when she punched her phone number into my cell phone instead.

Later, I of course text-messaged a clever and flirtatious note, to which I received this reply:

“Thanks for the text. Please don’t write any more. Regards, Sheriff David A. Clarke. P.S. If Sara gave you this number just to get rid of you, forget about her. She was just being nice in front of your friends. Besides, she’s way out of your league.”

Today, my co-workers asked how this month’s Drinking Right event went, to which I simply replied:

“Same as usual…”
