I Need A Hole

September 20th, 2009

GERMANTOWN, WI [ JG ] I spent the entire day doing laundry.

First you wash it.  Actually, first you FIND it, then you wash it.  Some people put an additional “sort it” step in there.  These people haven’t discovered the “cold” cycle.

Then you dry it.  Occasionally, you forget it’s IN the washer or that it’s IN the dryer.  It gets moldy smelling, and you have to start over at the “wash” phase.

Eventually, you have to iron, fold, and hang the clothes.  This process, in its entirety, is known as “I F#&?ING HATE THIS S#)T!”

Laundry

Here’s the thing.  Back when I was married, we had a house with a magic hole in the wall.  What I’d do is, come home from work, change clothes, stuff the dirty clothes into this magic hole, and go about my business.  Within a day or two, those clothes would appear in my closet clean, ironed, and folded.

So I decided my swingin’ bachelor pad needs one of these magic holes.  But I didn’t know specifically what to ask for down at the Home Builder Depot Lumber Farm, so I decided to ask my ex-wife.

I recalled the process for her in the same way I just did for you.  I explained that I needed to know the technical name for this hole.

“So, what kind of hole am I thinking of?” I implored her.

She merely glared back at me, and remarked “I know what kind of hole I’M thinking of”.

But for some reason, she wouldn’t tell me what kind of hole I was reminding her of.

Not in front of our son, anyway…

I love being a woman….except for the part about the expectation of being domestic. The parts of being a man that I would like to steal are:
1: Getting away with having a magic laundry hole that works
2: Having people understand that I work best when I can intently focus on one thing at a time and not drain my energies and shut me down by forcing me to do 15-25.

It’s called a “clothes chute.” But guess what, it doesn’t actually DO the laundry. It just expedites the journey to your laundry area.

The rest is left as an exercise for the reader/article author.
