Has Favre Put a Hit on Rodgers?

While Mr. Favre closed the door on his career, those of us still in the denial phase of our grieving note that he hasn’t turned the deadbolt and latched it shut for good. Wishful thinking, sneer the naysayers. He’s done. Live with it.

But just as the icy fingers of that cold, hard reality clench us by the footballs, Brett goes and props that door back open. Not wide enough to saunter back through, but enough that we can feel the warm breeze of possibility wafting back into the room. And while you and I might feel safer knowing that the Packers reserve-chute might have a big white number “4″ on it, Aaron Rodgers has to be more than a little uneasy.

Favre’s position after all, is this: He might come back to play “if Rodgers gets hurt.”

I grew up in northeast Wisconsin, and I can tell you this. The fervor with which us cheese-heads love a winning Packer team know no bounds, including ethical and legal ones. Be certain of this: there are more than a few guys up north this very minute with a green and gold parka in the closet, a pretty fast pickup truck in the driveway, and a cold beer or two under their belt who are hearing the phrase “if Rodgers gets hurt” echoing over and over in their heads.

The bottom line is this: For Aaron Rodgers, walking across the street in Green Bay this fall is going to be a lot like playing a game of Frogger…
