SASSWATCH: [ LINK : Badger Herald ] An official audit of Wisconsin State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass’ marble collection may be in order. I suspect she has lost a few.
The Wisconsin State Constitution mentions only one duty for the Treasurer: to serve on the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands. Contrast that job description with the above-linked fawning press release trumpeting:

“State Treasurer Dawn Sass has declared October 7th the Wisconsin Higher Education Day”.
She did whaaa…?!
Sass has the same authority to declare “Wisconsin ___ [ fill in the blank ] ___ Day” that you or I do. Even less so, in fact, since that dusty old Constitution thingy specifically enumerates (and thus, restricts) our bureaucrats’ scope of powers, and nowhere does it state that the Treasurer can ring a cowbell while yelling “Hear Ye! Hear Ye!” from the town square and officially proclaiming anything. About anything. Or anybody. Ever.
Somebody get the net before she adorns herself with a crown, a scepter, and a cape, and begins knighting people.
Us cheesehead-conservatives have enough problems without having governor Sir James of Doyle and mayor Sir Thomas of Barrett to joust with. You remember all the trouble Milwaukee’s LAST mayor caused with HIS lance, don’cha?

Yoiks, and away.
Incidentally, a noble effort was made in 2003 to do away with the expensive, do-nothing State Treasurer’s office when fiscally conservative Republicans in shining white armor dideth battleth thy bloated state bureaucracy dragon. Or… dragoneth. Whatevereth.
Alas, the beast prevailed, and now grows stronger with each election cycle by feeding on ever greater numbers of the taxpaying peasantry. Can nobody wrest us free of its hungry jaws?
Probably not.
Unless maybe we all proclaim “Wisconsin Stops Electing Big Spending Special Interest Flunkies and Delusional State Treasurers Day” this November 11th…

My suggestion has to do with hot lead and cold steel.
