MILWAUKEE [LINK : JSONLINE] Quote from the article: “Doyle still has a powerful veto pen that allows him to cut out sentences or parts of sentences. For instance, he can strike the word not in a sentence to write laws contrary to what the Legislature intends.” [emphasis mine] And according to Heartland.org, Doyle “…will retain the power to remove single digits to create new figures or delete entire clauses from paragraphs to change their meaning.”

What the…?! How…? Who…? Ghaaaa!!!
I’m refraining from calling the Governor a worm out of respect for worms. I came upon the quote while reading an article about the new budget compromise. What caught my eye was that Diamond Jim hated it. Obviously then, my first thought was “Wow. Must be a pretty good budget.” I knew he still had some veto power, but since (I thought) we’d killed the Franken-veto, I figured anything he scratched out was only going to save me money.
Seriously, how do you get to be my age and retain that level of naiveté? We didn’t kill Franken-veto. We poked it with a pitchfork and our fellow villagers waved a torch near it. We just made it angry. Of course the referendum meant nothing. What was your first clue, Gravelle? Maybe that the Democrats let it come up for a vote in the first place? Hmmmmm?
It’s taking me a while to hammer this article out. I type a little, then pound my head on the desk, then type a little more, then pound my head on the desk. I hope this doesn’t do any permanent damage.
It’s a nice desk…
