Treasure found in northern Wisconsin proves nearly as bountiful as Social Security
BRIGGSVILLE, WI [ LINK : WBAY TV ] Take $1700, put it in a box for fifty to sixty years, and afterwards it’ll be worth about… mmm… $1700 or so. If you’re lucky.

The guy who sold Dan Deming’s grandfather the farm never collected his retirement “savings”, so Dan gets to keep it. But the old man who stashed the box of cash back in the depression era is not so different from a lot of us.
There’s a good chance many of us won’t make it to retirement age, and we’ll never collect our Socialist Insecurity checks either. Even more of us will never get out the amount of money that was taken from us to finance this horrific Ponzi scheme.
Actually, the Deming fortune is probably a superior method. Once OUR S.S. money is gone, it’s just gone. There’s zero chance that anybody could ever “unearth” my unused cash. The government will see to that. The more I think about this, the better idea it becomes.
If anybody needs me, I’ll be in the backyard with a shovel. Don’t worry NaderNutz, I’ll try not to dig a hole anywhere near a caribou…

Why wouldn’t these older bills be Silver Certificates and worth more than $1 each to collectors?

They were badly weather worn, and for the most part, not in any sort of collectible shape. See: http://www.foxnews.com/images/375402/0_21_060208_money.jpg
