Menomonee Falls, WI [JG]  What was your first reaction when you heard me tell you that the Menomonee Falls public high school would, beginning next month, be transformed into an Islamic Mosque for weekend worship by area Muslims?

Well it’s not.  But it IS being turned into a Christian church, according to a mailing sent out to the area yesterday.  You can read more about it at their website: Legacy Christian Church.

Now, if you were at all relieved by that revelation, I can only ask: “Why?” Because you need to understand that, as a public institution, they cannot exercise partiality nor discrimination.  In other words, if Muslims, Jews, Wiccans, Scientologists, Satanists, Buddhists, Voodists, or Winnie-the-Pooh-dists now want to turn your public school into a place of worship, the precedent has been set that “yes, they can”.

And prepare yourselves for the eventuality, Menomonee Falls, that whatever percentage of the weekly Divine Intervention Fee you rake from the collection plate will end up being spent in court defending against the legal repercussions of either allowing the Christians to continue this tenuous tenancy, or denying it to others.

Public schools would do well to stick to bake sales for extra cash.  They don’t have to worry about whether the donuts are kosher, and they shouldn’t have to fret over whether their tenants are, either…
