MADISON (AP – Chicago Tribune LINK) I’ve often said that the only reason the IRS exists is so that telemarketers have somebody that THEY can make jokes about. This story cinches it.

Hundreds of Wisconsin taxpayers were sent erroneous notifications that they owe additional taxes. They don’t. But the worst part is (surprise!) the Infernal Revenue Service insists that “…taxpayers will get instructions on how to correct the problem in the letters they will receive next week.” The story goes on to say that “…filers who are affected will need to follow the appeals process because the department still needs the information to ensure they qualify for the tax credit.” [emphasis mine]

They screwed up, but it’s up to YOU to fix it.

This incident is just one among countless other anecdotes highlighting the Revenoo-ers’ blatant disregard for the value of our time, which they usurp annually as we jump through their bureaucratic hoops like so many trained circus poodles. Beyond that is the government’s treatment of the populace as minions who a) should just shut up and finance the machine; and b) do their bidding, on their schedule, at their demand.

That includes fixing the IRS’ mistakes for them…
